How to see your records

The Data Protection Act 1998 came into force on 1st March 2000 and allows patients to find out what information is held on computer and in certain paper records. This is known as “right of subject access”.

You can access some of your records online utilising our link on the home page. This information includes your current medication and allergies and we plan to enable greater access over the coming year. You must initially request a log on from the Practice which verifies your ID, simply call in and ask one of our administrative staff.

You can also inspect your GP medical notes but we request that you first write to our Practice Manager, Finola Johnson, to ask for a suitable time to do this.
Before your appointment, we do need to check that all the notes are present and that a suitable private room is available. Due to lack of space and pressure on staff time, this appointment may take 1 – 2 weeks to arrange.
The doctor may decide to restrict access to the information held in your records if they perceive that this may cause serious harm to the physical or mental health or condition of you the patient or any other person involved in your care. The doctor would provide a written explanation in such circumstances.
You may need to consult one of our doctors following access if you require an explanation of some medical terminology and to ask any questions you have. A further appointment may be required to facilitate this.
We reserve the right to make reasonable charges for any copies of notes you wish to take away with you.
